BOTOX, Restyalane, and other Injectables

Dr. Brian Brzowski personally administers several types of safe, effective facial fillers that provide many benefits: BOTOX®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse™ and collagen. Each product has its own advantages and disadvantages, and every patient is unique; Dr. Brzowski will discuss your needs and goals with you in a detailed consultation.

BOTOX

BOTOX®, FDA-approved since 2002 for smoothing facial wrinkles, frown lines, and furrows, has helped millions of people look and feel refreshed and relaxed. Dr. Brzowski uses BOTOX to correct "dynamic" wrinkles (those that have formed from facial expressions), in treatments that are brief and easy. There is minimal discomfort from the injections, but if you are sensitive to pain, a cold pack or topical anesthetic cream can be used.

The effects of BOTOX are apparent within days after a treatment, and the effects last for about four months.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a very beneficial filler used to smooth wrinkles and folds in the face that has mostly replaced the use of Restylane™. Made of non-animal hyaluronic acid (a substance found in the body naturally), Juvéderm is allergen-free and thus doesn't have the risk of allergic reactions that some fillers do. It's excellent for filling deep lines and creases in the face, for fine lines around the eyes and mouth, and for plumping the lips. It's FDA-approved and involves no down-time; its effects are seen immediately, and they last six months or in some cases up to a year.

Radiesse™

Composed of microspheres that fill in facial folds, wrinkles and creases, Radiesse™ is a "next-generation" filler that can correct:

• smile lines
• "marionette lines" extending from the corners of the mouth downward
• nasolabial folds

The injected Radiesse microspheres are made of calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance naturally found in the body; they provide results that can last up to two years or more. Radiesse is also FDA-approved.

Collagen

Collagen injections are one of the most effective yet quickest cosmetic enhancements available. Dr. Brzowski uses a modern synthetic product that does not require a skin test to check for allergic reactions like the older generation collagen products. Collagen injections can be used to plump up the lips or to correct:

• wrinkles
• laugh lines
• frown lines
• creases
• crow's feet
• acne scars

Collagen treatments take about a half hour; although the product contains a local anesthetic, some patients are sensitive to the injections and will thus benefit from a topical anesthetic. There may be some puffiness or bruising after the injection(s), but this will resolve within a few days. The effects of collagen treatments can last from six weeks to more than six months. The body will absorb the collagen, making additional treatments necessary to maintain the effects. As is true of BOTOX, Juvéderm, and Radiesse, collagen injections offer excellent but temporary benefits.
